Based on a story by Osamu Tezuka, JUNGLE EMPEROR LEOfollows the story of Leo the Lion. Feared and revered as the King of the Jungle,Leo makes his home at the base of Osamu Tezuka. However, when humans enter thejungle to chase after the Moonlight Stones, Leo must do everything he can toprotect his jungle and the Moonlight Stones from the destructivehumans.
Some sources list this as the first color Anime TVseries broadcasted in Japan. This depends on whether Dolphin Prince wasbroadcast or not.
Based on the Manga by Tezuka, but created with an Americanaudience in mind (the series was partially funded by NBC). As a result the showwas made much more episodic and did not follow Kimba as he grew up (The Mangaseries follows Kimba until his death as an adult).
Widely accepted as havingbeen plagiarized by Disney with the Lion King. Disney denies that there is anyrelation between the two.
Jungle Taitei was animated at Mushi simultaneouslywith Astro Boy.
